Question #74865 (2010-07-07)

  The children on the TV show 7th Heaven all seem to have
Biblical names (Matthew, Mary, Simon, Ruth[ie], Sam[uel] and
David) except for Lucy, the middle daughter. How does Lucy
fit in, and is her name or a derivative of her name found in
the Bible?

Answer(s):

Hello!

Thanks for using Ask A Question and for your question about the name Lucy in the TV series 7th Heaven.

Although Lucy is not a biblical name it is the name of an early Christian Saint. Saint Lucy "martyr in Syracysem Sicily, 304)" (New Catholic Encyclopedia, vol 8, 2nd ed.) The name Lucy or Lucinda is from the Latin meaning "light".

However, her middle name, "Rebecca" does appear in the bible. "Lucy Rebecca Camden-Kinkirk (b. 1983) is a fictional character on the American television series 7th Heaven." http://7thheaven.wikia.com/wiki/Lucy_Camden

"Rebekah ... appears in the Hebrew Bible as a prophet and one of four Jewish matriarchs." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebecca
