Re: CPR railway station in Medicine Hat I live in
Edmonton. Last November members of my family attended a
funeral of Rev Walter Krewski, my brother and a former
priest and resident of Medicine Hat. As I was showing parts
of the city to several members of my family from BC, my
nephew from Trail BC was so interested in the railway
station. He has been a long time CPR employee. I took a
number of photographs of the station and only had a chance
recently to give them to him. He was absolutely excited to
see the pictures and asked me when the station was actually
built. Could you provide me with the date or sources where I
might determine some of the station's history. Many thanks.

In the late 1980's or early 90's, the production of
Calgary Beer was discontinued at the Calgary Brewery. This
happened BEFORE the brewery was shut down in 1994.
Apparently there was a ceremony conducted by the brewery
where Mary Cross, a daughter of A.E. Cross, was in
attendance. Carling O'Keefe owned the brewery until 1989,
when Molson, through its aquisition of Carling, took it
over. I am trying to find out whether the ceremony was held
while Carling still owned the brewery, or whether the beer
was dropped after Molson had acquired it. I beleive there
was a contractual agreement between the parties involved
when the brewery was first sold in 1961, that the Calgary
brand was never to be dropped. It did of course disappear
from the Alberta market, but strangely enough, it has been
available in Saskatchewan ever since. Again, could you
please help me in determining which brewer ceased producing
the Calgary brand here in town. Thank you. [name deleted]

Thank you for this service! I hope you don't mind if I
have 3 questions. I am an ESL LINC4 teacher of adult
immigrants and was inspired at our recent conference to
consider teaching an unabridged novel to my students. This
was tried successfully at a school in Edmonton and greatly
enhanced the students learning and confidence. My question
is this: Since I know you have book club materials available
at the Calgary Public Libraries, is it possible to borrow 21
copies of Tuck Everlasting or To Kill a Mockingbird for my
class. Most if not all do have library cards. Also, do you
have the movies available for either of these novels and do
you happen to have a recorded audio version for them to
listen to? The last question: would it be possible to borrow
such materials for an extended period - perhaps double the
usual lending period or even longer if necessary? Thank you
for your time. Sincerely Debbie Crosby

Hi. I'm trying to find a book that I read years ago and
can't remember the title or the author anymore. I've already
tried searching on novelist K-8 plus, but can't seem to find
it. The plot, from what I can remember, is about a boy who
goes to live with an aunt or a grandmother in a very old
house. I don't remember how he discovers this, but something
about the house, or some room he discovers, causes him to
travel to the past. In the past he meets and befriends
someone who used to live in the house, or used to live near
the house. This is the first book of a series of books. Let
me know if you need anymore information about the book and I
will hopefully be able to remember it to tell you. Thanks.

glass display case near 2nd Cup. I put a hold on the title,
but it has since disappeared from my holds list. Now I
cannot remember the title! It was a non-fiction book and its
subject was something like growing up in the 195os in
Alberta. The book was not new--as in, not recently published
and the copy itself looked a bit old (perhaps it was
weeded?). I know this isn't much to go on, but, who knows,
maybe someone might remember that book being on display ...
thanks

left me with information that is much more complex than I am

expectations that were common of the middle/upper class in
Elizabethan England. This is for an essay on a Shakespearean

most of it is common knowledge but I am not sure if I need

to help a student who is working on a set design for a play
set in Calgary during the 1940s. She is interested in the
social history of the time, particularly women's clothing
and fashion. She also wants to see photographs and
illustrations of social conditions, housing, etc. Finally,
she would also like some narrative descriptions of Calgary
life during this decade. Could you suggest a website that
might provide such information? What about any books on the
topic? I looked in WorldCat but almost all the cited books
were demographic unillustrated studies of the city. She is
looking for illustrated material but with helpful narrative
content. I would appreciate any suggestions for websites or
print material on this topic. Thank you very much for your
assistance and time. Sincerely, [name deleted] Memorial Library Boston University Boston, Massachusetts

Hi: I asked if you knew where to go to access flexible
wire... I was sent to Michael's! Heh, I have searched every
store remoting resembling fabric and crafts in Calgary. I
have searched the internet for hours, under flexible wire,
millinery supplies, shaping wire, boning, reshaping wire,
hat making, craft wire, memory wire, sewing notions, and
tailoring supplies. I understand that I am in the craft
world. I just wondered if you had any suggestions about
other sources of information/resources that would assist my
search. Warmly Margery Knorr

I have a reference question that you may be able to help
me with. A library patron is looking for a book about
Canada… not the tourist type of book but more about, as he
says, “how Canada is better than the United States”
which, knowing this fellow as I do, means “more
politically ‘left’ than the US.” He is a Quaker and
greatly admired Canada for “taking in the draft
resisters” in the Viet Nam era. He is worried about the
apparent “rightward” drift but still thinks Canada is a
“better place.” I'm writing from the Princeton Public
Library in Princeton NJ, USA but my parents live in Calgary.
Thank you.
