This is going to be a long question. Please be patient! My
husband's great uncle is George Hook. (Born 1886 in London,
England) His parents were James Hook and Kate Hughes. We
don't know exactly when he arrived in Canada. His wife,
Clara had twin girls on 23 Feb 1914 in Grassey Lake Alberta.
After the birth Clara was very ill and George named the
girls Clara and Matilda. On 25 Feb 1914 Clara died and on 4
March 1914 baby Clara died. I would like to know what
happened to Matilda. Did she survive against all the odds?
What Happened to George? Did he remarry, or devote his life
to his daughter? I can find no mention of either George or
Matilda in any UK records. i.e marriage or death Is there
any record of a death for Clara or baby Clara in 1914? Or
even marriage or death records for George or Matilda? I have
a copy of a very, very sad letter that George Hook sent to
his father James Hook. The letter was sent on 6th March 1914
from Grassey Lake.

Hello, I had sent this message to dear.library, bu to
judge from th automatic reply, perhaps I should've sent it
to this e-mail address, instead? I am a music-teacher in
eastern South Dakota who is researching the life of an early
Hawaiian- and country-music musician named Charles Kama, who
happened to play the Calgary Stampede in 1930. I've recently
learned of an article mentioning Mr. Kama's appearance, in
the 8 July 1930 edition of the Calgary Daily Herald, and I
was wondering if the Calgary Public Library might perchance
be able to make a scan for me of the page on which the
article appears (or, at least the section of the page
containing the article). I've listed the complete
information for the article below. I'm not sure if the
Calgary Public Library does this sort of scanning, but
I'd--of course--be willing to pay whatever research,
scanning, etc. fees that might apply in this situation.
Thanks for any help that you might be able to give me with
this query. Sincerely yours, (personal information deleted)

Democrats or republicans?....vietnam war? i wrote in my

vietnam war was a good opportunity for republicans to show
themselves solid in contrast with demcrats . i wrote
""....Through concentrating on Iraq issue, Republicans
wanted to reaffirm what the public longtime believed about
their strong political direction towards the international
crisis. As 2002 polls indicated, Americans trusted the
Republican Party by a wide margin on international security
issues rather than Democrats. This public perception was
built after the Vietnam War during which the Republican
President succeeded to turn the war out to be a victorious
military campaign and showed Democrats as unwise when they
voiced their opposition to the war . Comparing the
Republican Party strong stand in dealing with international
crisis in general and Iraq in specific to the weak positions
by Democratic opponents, Republicans could drive the public
to vote for them in the mid-term elections....."" however

Hi there. I hope that you will please be able to answer my
reference question here, although I reside in Ontario. Now I
recently watched an episode of the Canadian TV series called
PET HEROES that dramatized a bear attack from all the way
back to August 7, 1952. In this incident, forest ranger
Ronnie Lyle from Meadows Ranger Station was injured by a
bear in the vicinity of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
However, despite Lyle's injury, he managed to crawl onto his
horse & ride away to safety. Another denizen of Meadows, Don
Fregren, now in his 70's, was interviewed for PET HEROES as
he was 16 in '52 & remembers this incident well. Anyway, do
you have any record of this incident, assuming this story is
true to begin with? HOWEVER,I read on your website's FAQ
that you can not handle in-depth research, so I hope that my
inquiry isn't too much trouble for me to ask of you. I also
hope that I am asking the right people. Thanks

uncle Thomas Frederick Ballard who married Salome Austwick
(aka Sally) sometime in 1931 in Calgary (somewhere!). It
might have been the 1Q. Also sometime after they married
they had their fist and only child, a son I believe who died
possibly of pnuemonia when he was very young. I am hoping
you might be able to find any newspaper announcement on the
marriage or the birth of death of their son please in local
newspapers of that time. In 2009 I was given the following
info. on the marriage but at the time the registers were not
available to look in, but the info. might be of some use to
you for looking up? Married in Calgary (accession, item 112)
the marriage has been recorded as #5 which led the person to
think the marriage took place early in the year of 1931. I
am sorry but I do not know what any of the figures mean, so
hope you do. I look forward to hearing from you. I see you

I live in Calgary, Alberta. In the late 1970's or early
'80s, I used to take a bus from the University of Calgary
down to Kensington Road NW. As I headed south on Crowchild
Trail NW, there was a very large old house on the west side.
The house would have stood just below the hill, at
approximately where the 7th Avenue NW cul-de-sac is now. The
house number may have been 819 (Crowchild Trail NW?). I seem
to remember 2 storeys, red brick, a white porch, and
possibly a couple of large spruce trees. Sometime in the
late 80's, the house disappeared and was replaced by three
smaller infill homes. Can you please find out for me: Who
originally owned the old house? When was it built? What was
it used for in the late 1970's? When exactly did it
disappear? What happened to it? (demolished? moved to…?)
