Question 83895 asked on 2011-08-29 09:06:34

This is going to be a long question. Please be patient! My husband's great uncle is George Hook. (Born 1886 in London, England) His parents were James Hook and Kate Hughes. We don't know exactly when he arrived in Canada. His wife, Clara had twin girls on 23 Feb 1914 in Grassey Lake Alberta. After the birth Clara was very ill and George named the girls Clara and Matilda. On 25 Feb 1914 Clara died and on 4 March 1914 baby Clara died. I would like to know what happened to Matilda. Did she survive against all the odds? What Happened to George? Did he remarry, or devote his life to his daughter? I can find no mention of either George or Matilda in any UK records. i.e marriage or death Is there any record of a death for Clara or baby Clara in 1914? Or even marriage or death records for George or Matilda? I have a copy of a very, very sad letter that George Hook sent to his father James Hook. The letter was sent on 6th March 1914 from Grassey Lake.

I will be coming to Calgary in September and hope to visit your library on Sunday, 9/11. What are your hours that day? I am looking for a book titled As the Years go By, which I think may be about the Three Hills Community. I believe one was published in 1970 and perhaps later, but I don't have that year. Do you have a copy of either publication? If so, where would I find it and may I make photocopies? What are the costs of copies? Thanks for your help with my questions!

Question 84162 asked on 2011-09-10 14:59:42

I am interesting in finding information about the marriage of Dr. Heber S. Shirreffs to Katherine (Kitty)Welby which probably took place in Daysland, Alberta between 1907 and 1911. Dr Shirreffs was the doctor in Daysland coming there about 1907 and his wife Katherine "Kitty" Welby was from Ireland and worked in a local lawyer's office. An article in a local newspaper would be a wonderful source of information. The marriage most likely was in either 1910 or 1911 since the 1911 and 1916 census states that 1910 was her year of immigration. Is there a local cemetery committee from which I could find out if she is buried in Daysland and also when her death took place? many thanks for your possible help. Elizabeth Waymann

Question 84306 asked on 2011-09-16 16:28:34

Hi there. I hope that you will please be able to answer my reference question here, although I reside in Ontario. Now I recently watched an episode of the Canadian TV series called PET HEROES that dramatized a bear attack from all the way back to August 7, 1952. In this incident, forest ranger Ronnie Lyle from Meadows Ranger Station was injured by a bear in the vicinity of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. However, despite Lyle's injury, he managed to crawl onto his horse & ride away to safety. Another denizen of Meadows, Don Fregren, now in his 70's, was interviewed for PET HEROES as he was 16 in '52 & remembers this incident well. Anyway, do you have any record of this incident, assuming this story is true to begin with? HOWEVER,I read on your website's FAQ that you can not handle in-depth research, so I hope that my inquiry isn't too much trouble for me to ask of you. I also hope that I am asking the right people. Thanks
