Question 73354 asked on 2010-05-18 14:53:33

How many days did it take settlers to travel from Winnipeg to Edmonton by train (say, on the Canadian Northern Railway) circa 1910? Also, did the CNoR have open-section type cars with pairs of facing seats whose cushions could be slid together to make berths? If settlers were bringing with them farm implements and equipment such as a sulky rake or plough, as well as livestock, would these have been carried in conventional stockcars, or in combination cars in which the men could sleep in the larger compartment at one end of the car while trunks, crats and hat bags occupied the smaller compartment at the other end?
