Dear Sir/Madam I am currently researching my family
history and have a question you may be able to answer. I do
understand if this is not possible but thought it worth
exploring. In the 1901 Canada census my G G Grandfather is
recorded as residing at a place called Plant, Alberta, North
West Territories. His name was William F. Studebaker
(Studabaker) who immigrated to Canada in 1893 from the US
and became a rancher. (His daughter, my grandmother was
subsequently born(1906) and raisedin Edmonton.) I found out
that the province of Alberta did not yet exist at that time
and that there was, however, a District of Alberta which was
located in the Northwest Territories (now the Provinces of
Alberta and Saskatchewan). District Number 202 (Alberta
District) which contained a Sub-district called Plant. I
wondered if there was any more information about this
place/area called 'Plant'or my G Grandfathers ranch? Kind

I am searching for information on a man named "Peter
Hertzel". Searches that I have done have indicated that he
is mentioned in the book "Prairie Rose Country" by Spondin
and Area History Book Society. I am unable to obtain this
book on inter-library loan. Would it be possible to have you
verify that he or any Hertzels are mentioned in this book? I
know he had a brother named Michael who died in
approximately 1925. Peter died in 1916. I will be looking
forward to your response. Eugenie Lang

I am visiting Edmonton on Saturday 14th August 2010 for a
while and wonder if you could help me track down my family.
My Aunt was called Margaret 'Peggy' Hanson, married to James
'Jim' Hanson. They emigrated to Edmonton in the late 1940s
or early 1950s. They had three sons John, Denis and Gerard.
My aunt and uncle have both died and I have no idea where my
cousins now are. I really would love to see where they used
to live, even though I may not be able to see my cousins,
who are probably in their 70s by now. Can the city records
find their old address? I think there was a 1114 number in
it. I have a black and white photo of the house and front
garden. I do hope that you can help me. From Ann Shaw (Ne
Pooler) originally from Castleton in Lancashire England,
where my aunt, born Margaret Pooler came from.

Dear Sir or Madame, Re: Oliver Love, died in Bassano,
1922 A few years ago Miss Blanche Coultis of the Brooks and
District Museum sent me some information about a great uncle
of mine, Oliver Love, who published a Bassano newspaper and
also worked at the Brooks Bulletin. After his wife left
him with his chilldren he committed suicide in 1922. His
wife Nancy went back to Quebec with the children, (Thelma,
George, Leslie and Nola [Nicol]) but afterward returned to
Bassano. Would your society have any records about how
long Nancy Love remained in Bassano or if her children
remained there? I am researching the newspaper articles by
Oliver Love. Oliver Love was buried in the Bassano
cemetery but outside the limits due to suicide .

I moved to Edmonton back in 1975 and I am looking for
archived pictures of the North Start hotel and the other
hotel that use to sit where the Kingsway Garden Mall is now.
The North start Hotel was like a row house hotel and the
other motel i think was called the siesta hotel? It had like
a Mexican themed logo at the front. I am looking for this
information more for personal use in a book i am writing
about where my family lived when we first arrived in
Edmonton. I've been looking all over the web but can't find
anything and lucky me I end up at your site. Can you
help/direct me as to where I can find pictures so I know I
did not dream the hotel/motel? They use to be right where
Kingsway is now. Thank you for any assistance you can give
me.

Hello! I'm a reference librarian at the Kelowna Branch of
Okanagan Regional Library. One of our patrons would like to
get a copy of an obituary that would have appeared in the
Edmonton Journal in November 1988 (D.O.D. was Nov. 7, 1988).
The name of the deceased was (name removed.) The
practice in our library system is to scan obituaries from
microfilm and email them to out-of-city patrons free of
charge. Do you provide a similar service, and if so, would
you be willing to email us a scanned copy of this obituary?
Many thanks if you are able to help us. (name removed)
